If your looking for the ultimate setup, be sure to consider a headset stand as well.

1. HyperX Cloud 2

HyperX Cloud II Blackout gaming headset

Despite its higher price, this headset has still blown my expectations away. It has clearly been built to perform at the highest level for its given price. It is extremely comfortable thanks to the memory foam ear cups and padded headband. Not to mention it only comes in at a weight of 300g without the mic and 309g with the mic. While using it I do have to say that it is one of the most comfortable gaming headsets on this list.

Apart from the comfortability aspect, it appears that it is built to stand the test of time. It features a solid aluminum frame with braided cable connections. There is no doubt in my mind that the HyperX Cloud 2 will last you years. Provided you are not smashing it on your desk.

When we take a look at the sound quality, HyperX has really performed well. The headset is equipped with 53mm drives which provide you with exceptional sound quality and performance. Not to mention it offers 7.1 virtual surround sound. When we pair these two features with the memory foam sound cups, it is easy to see why it sounds so well. I can comfortably say that you will be able to hear the smallest of sounds in any game that you play.

The microphone quality is outstanding, to say the least. Compared to others on this list it sounds amazing. Did I also forget to mention that it is noise canceling as well? It is quite hard to find that within this price range. Although, we do have to remember that it is a headset microphone. Standalone mics are still a better option for the best voice quality. Regardless, I do have to say that for a headset mic it sounds great. Not to mention that it is fully detachable which is an amazing feature.

The HyperX Cloud 2 is by far one of the best choices from this list. It has to be one of the most comfortable options with the best quality. I absolutely love this headset and believe it is a perfect choice for any gamer out there.

2. Corsair HS70 V2 Pro Wireless

Corsair HS70 wireless gaming headset

Right out of the box you can see that this gaming headset is very high quality. It features soft memory foam ear cups just like many of the other options. However, they do feel slightly more comfortable. When you place them over your ears the experience is exceptional. Despite them being slightly heavier at about 330g, you do not notice it too much. Even after long durations of use, you do not notice it at all. They are just as comfortable after 4 hours of use versus when you just put them on.

The sound quality of the Corsair HS70 Pro is just as you would expect, perfect. It is equipped with 50mm audio drives to deliver amazing audio quality. While gaming with this headset you will really take note of its sound performance. Not to mention, just as many others on this list it has 7.1 surround sound. Again, this truly does immerse you fully into any game that you are playing. It feels like the sounds are actually happening around you.

Taking a look at the mic quality, it is very similar to the HyperX Cloud 2. It features a noise-canceling microphone which performs quite well. While testing it, there were no unwanted background noises. This is very nice especially if your game in a noisy setup. The mic on the Corsair HS70 is also fully detachable. As you know I am a big fan of this as I think it is awkward to have a mic up close and personal while you are not using it.

This headset really stands out because it is fully wireless. Within this price range that is a rare feature to find that makes a big difference. It offers a low-latency 2.4Ghz wireless connection through a USB connector. The battery life lasts up to 16 hours of use, this should last most gamers. It can be recharged through the included USB cable.

If you are looking for a comfortable wireless gaming headset under $100 this is the option for you. While using it, the quality and features have definitely exceeded my expectations. For its price, it is an amazing choice to consider.

3. Corsair HS60 Pro V2

black Corsair HS60 gaming headset

Just as the HS70 Pro, straight out of the box you can see its superb quality. These two options are the exact same concerning build and features. The only thing that sets them apart is the wireless capabilities. The HS60 Pro does not have any cordless capabilities which is why you can find it at a lower price. If you do not mind having a cable, the HS60 Pro proves to be a great option.

Due to these headphones being the same as the HS70, we won’t touch on their features and capabilities. However, we can talk a little bit about the cable that is provided in the box. It comes with a non-detachable braided 3.5mm wired cable. I would have liked to see Corsair offer a detachable cable, but it does not seem to be too big of an issue. The cable itself seems to be of high quality showing no signs of failure after rigorous testing.

To enable the 7.1 surround sound, a small USB sound card is included in the box. To make full use of this gaming headset you will have to plug the 3.5mm analog cable into it. I do find this to be nice as you can use the HS60 Pro on a variety of devices.

4. Razer Kraken Tournament Edition

Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headset

While I am a big fan of Razer devices, previously I have steered away from their audio devices. However, this headset has performed exceptionally well making me re-consider. It offers a sleek modern design with traditional oval earcups. The earcups themselves are constructed from cooling gel-infused memory foam with a combination of both microfiber and leatherette materials. Over the ear, they are very comfortable and breathable making them great for long gaming sessions.

When we tested the audio, the Razer Kraken performed very well. They deliver high-quality full sound Audio with 50mm drivers. Just as many others, it comes equipped with 7.1 surround sound capabilities. While the sound performance is great, I will say that it is not the best on the list. However, the difference was not overly noticeable to others at this price range.

Razer Kraken gaming headset with media buttons

The microphone itself sounded amazing, offering noise cancellation as well. The best feature that I found this mic to offer was its ability to retract. While it is not detachable, being able to retract it while not in use is great.

While it is not wireless, it does come with Razers braided cable. This cable is made from a high-quality microfiber fabric that is very durable. Of my Razer devices, I have yet to see one of these cables fail me. It will definitely stand the test of time.

For its price, you are getting a great headset that is both very comfortable and breathable while delivering great quality sound.

5. HyperX Cloud Alpha

black hyperX cloud alpha gaming headset

There is no denying that HyperX has to be making some of the best gaming headsets on the market. Right out of the box it is quite obvious that this headset was not only built for quality but also to last. The earcup arms are made from solid aluminum which is amazing to see on a headset at this price. The earcups and headband are made from a plush leatherette memory foam to maximize your comfort. The very first time you place them on your ears, you will see just how comfortable they are. If I am being honest, it has to be one of the most comfortable options on this list. Even after 4-5 hours of use, they cause no comfort problems whatsoever.

The sound performance on the Cloud Alpha is amazing, to say the least. It features 50mm drivers while providing a wide frequency response. Trust me when I say, they sound amazing offering you a more immersive gaming experience. While they are bass-heavy, that is to be expected with most gaming headsets. After all, as gamers we really want to feel that in-game bass, right?

The microphone performed exceptionally well during my testing. It was able to pick up my voice crisply and clearly. It also features noise cancelation which is nice for your teammates, especially if you have a noisy keyboard. Apart from the quality, the microphone is fully detachable. This is a big win for the Cloud Alpha as a few on this list do not offer this. Did I also forget to mention that the headphones cable is detachable as well? It seems like HyperX has thought of everything for the Cloud Alpha.

6. Corsair Void RGB Elite Wireless

Corsair Void RGB Elite wireless headset

This headset is exactly what you would expect a gaming headset to look like. It offers squared off ear cups with sharper bezels and RGB lighting. There is no denying that the Corsair Void Elite has a unique modern design. Due to this, I was initially worried about the overall comfort. However, after testing them, I can say that they are very comfortable especially after long durations of use. The earcups are constructed from soft memory foam and microfiber mesh fabric. This allows it to be rather breathable which is nice if you keep them on for a few hours.

The sound quality of this headset is fantastic, featuring 50mm high-density audio drivers. It is very similar sounding to both the HS60 and HS70. Although it does offer a slightly wider range of frequency.

Where this headset really sets itself apart is with the RGB lighting and wireless connectivity. After charging, the headset can hold its charge for up to 16 hours of use. I have not found the battery life to be a problem, however, I do charge them every night. Taking a look at the RGB lighting, it emits a vibrant bright light from the Corsair logo. It is also worth mentioning that if you have other Corsair devices you will be able to sync the lighting together.

This headset is an amazing choice if you are looking for something that truly resembles a gaming headset. The only downside is that the microphone is not detachable whatsoever. You can swivel it in an upward position, but it would be nice to have the ability to remove it.

7. Corsair Void RGB Elite

wired Corsair Void RGB Elite

The Void Elite is the exact same as the RGB Elite Wireless. It features the same build, hardware, and features. The only difference between the two is the connectivity. This headset requires a cable to work which is not too big of a deal if you don’t mind. This will allow it to be found at a cheaper price over the wireless edition.

The cable itself is non-removable being constructed from dense rubber-like materials. It is relatively high quality and appears relatively durable. I do however wish that it was constructed from a braided fabric as they tend to last longer. Apart from that, from typical use, there is no reason for me to believe that it would fail.

If you are not a big fan of wireless capabilities, the Void RGB Elite is great. It is packed full of high-end hardware and features making it well worth its price.

8. Logitech G Pro Gaming Headset

Logitech G Pro

The Logitech G Pro was designed and constructed to be a headset for the highest level of gaming. Right of the box, this is very clear to see. Taking a look at the construction, simply put, it is built to last. It features solid aluminum forks with a steel headband on them. There is no reason why it should not stand the test of time. The earcups are made from a memory foam leatherette being very comfortable. Due to the leatherette, it creates a great seal around your ear, however, they are not very breathable. To counter this, Logitech has included some micro suede earcups which is a nice addition. While it is not the most comfortable headset on the list, it still feels great.

It features 50mm audio drivers that Logitech is calling their Advanced Pro-G Drivers. At first glance they do sound great, delivering clear and crisp audio. I will say that they are not as bass-heavy as other options on this list, but they still sound great. While the audio performance was good, I would not say that it is the best at this price range.

The included detachable microphone appears to be of relatively high quality. While testing it I have to admit that it is one of the best on the list. It delivered excellent, clear, and robust audio. I have absolutely no complaints about this microphone. Simply put, it sounds great.

While I was not too impressed with the audio from the Logitech G Pro, its additional features make up for it. It is extremely durable, offering a detachable mic and cable with additional earcup choices. I believe this headset is well worth it if these features matter to you.

9. SteelSeries Arctis 5

SteelSeries Arctis 5 gaming headphones

SteelSeries has definitely not let me down with the Arctis 5. This is by far one of the most stylish options on the list. It features a sleek and stylish matte black design with an RGB lighting ring on the earcups. You could definitely wear these out in public without anyone noticing whatsoever. The earcups are made from memory foam with a non-abrasive, breathable microfiber fabric. When you place the Arctis 5 you will find that they are extremely comfortable and lightweight. Having breathable earcups makes a significant difference if you plan to wear them for long gaming sessions.

It features 40mm audio drivers, which deliver a smooth and reliable audio experience. There is no denying that they sound great. While gaming with the Arctis 5, I was able to hear the faintest of sounds. This is extremely important if you are playing any FPS games. For its price, I would say that the sound quality is well worth it.

The microphone on the other hand was good, however, it was not great. While it did deliver clean and crisp voice audio, it also picked up some background noises. This may not be too big of an issue if you plan to use it in a more quiet setting. But, if you have a noisy mouse or keyboard, it will definitely pick that up. One big benefit to the microphone is its retractable functionality. Despite it not being detachable, it does retract into the earcup almost completely. In its retracted position it is even quite hard to see it unless you know what you are looking for.

I was very impressed with this gaming headset and highly recommend it. For its design, comfort, and functionality, it is well worth its price.

10. Razer Nari Essential Wireless

Razer Nari Essential gaming headset

Just as before I was hesitant on looking into Razer gaming headsets. However, there is no denying that this is a fantastic option for its price. I will be honest in saying that this is one of the largest choices on the list. This may be a problem for you if you are looking for something a little more sleek and modest. It features the same earcup design as the Razer Kraken which as we know is great. The headband takes a little bit of a different approach being auto-adjusting. With that being said, it is an extremely comfy pair of headphones even after long use.

As for the audio, the Nari Essential wireless sounded good. It by no means was the best on the list but it still performed well. In games, I was able to detect and pick up every small sound thanks to the 40mm drivers. For the price, the sound quality is worth it but nothing to be amazed about.

This gaming headset really sets itself apart because it is wireless. It comes with a USB adapter enabling its wireless capabilities. The battery itself will last up to 16 hours of gameplay. This appears to be quite standard for most options which should be enough for most gamers. Just as many others on this list, I never ran into any problems with its battery life. Again, I do plug it in at the end of each day regardless.

For its price and features, it is a great wireless gaming headset. But due to its overall sound quality and bulky size, I had to place it at the end of the list.

Buying Guide

All in all, you have a lot of things to consider when deciding what the best gaming headset will be for you. Depending on what style of gamer you are will change what features matter to you most. Not to mention it is important to consider how you plan to use the headset as well. If you want to use it across multiple devices, a wireless option may not be best for you. I believe it is important to consider the following features as listed below.

Comfortability

The overall comfort is very important to consider. After all, it is highly likely that you will be gaming with it on your head for numerous hours. I have used a variety of flat out uncomfortable headsets over the years. I believe that all of the options on this list will provide you will a relatively high level of comfort.

Connectivity

I mentioned it briefly but you want to make sure that your choice is compatible with the devices you plan to use it on. Most of the cable options will be compatible with just about every device as they tend to have both USB and 3.5mm connections. Some of the wireless choices require you to have an available USB port. This can prove to be a problem if you want to use it on a device that does not feature USB ports.

Durability

The last thing you want is your new gaming headset to fail after a short period of time. While some options on this list are more durable than others, for the most part, they are all pretty good. You want to select one that features not only high-quality materials but a durable design. This will help ensure it lasts as long as you intend to use it.

Quality and Performance

Of course, this proves to be a very important aspect of the headset. You want something that will provide you the ultimate immersive experience. At this price range, it is difficult to find anything that will blow your socks off. However, there are a lot of fantastic options to choose from. I find that for under $100 you are in the sweet spot to get something that sounds pretty good.

Additional Features

Every headset on this list has a variety of added features. Take a look at each one and identify what matters to you most. You may want something that features RGB lighting if you are into that. If that is not something that concerns you, you may want an option with detachable cables. Every single gamer has different preferences as to what they are looking for. It is important to identify what matters to you most. This will help you narrow down your list, making the selection process easier.

Conclusion – Top Pick

At the end of the day, the number one position has to go to the Hyper X Cloud 2. This headset has impressed me with its outstanding quality and performance for its price. While the final decision was tough, the Cloud 2 took the lead with its amazing sound quality and comfort. Not to mention its great microphone quality. If you are looking for a gaming headset that will blow your expectations away, this is it.

Regardless of my personal top pick, it is ultimately up to you to decide. There is a significant amount of great choices available on the market. I believe that selecting any one of the options provided on this list will leave you a happy gamer. They all have unique differences while remaining a high level of quality and performance.
